What should a student do when it's raining

There are a list of things that you can do indoors, and of course, it's not raining swords or any dangerous objects so you can go out and walk in the rain. However, that's not recommended if you are on the brink of getting a flu in the humid summer day.

1. You can read some books. The definition of book here does not mean textbook. You can read fiction. You can read non-fiction. You can read magazine. You can read newspaper. You can read anything from advertisement on the bus stop or the writing on your wall. You can squint or read leisurely.

2. You can listen to some music. You can again, listen to any kind of music to your liking, but don't be too loud otherwise other people will be angry at you. They may throw things at you and your rainy day activity will come to a holt.

3. You can do some house work. I know. These things are tiresome, but they need to be done. For example, wipe your windows clean. Vacuum your room. Fold your duvet. Clean your computer table. Throw away the rubbish and bring in the garbage bin. You can also do something more enjoyable such as cooking up a storm or making something new for the house. You can decorate your room with beautiful things. Ultimately, it's your place so you are free to do anything you like.

4. You can watch something. For example, you can turn on the television to watch some program. You can watch a VCD, a DVD, a video. You can watch people walking on the street. They are watching your garden and admiring your roses.

5. You can do nothing. Yes, absolutely nothing.

6. You can play a musical instrument. You can sing. Make some noise. You can also dance around and nobody will say you dance funny, or you dance well for that matter.

Well, that's how I spend my summer rainy day. How do you spend yours?

Library is my best friend

I have spent today in two libraries. In fact, if you give me a whole day, then I will immerse myself in the wonderous world of books. I have borrowed several interesting fiction books from CityLibrary, which opened again in 2005.

In the morning, I went to see my college professor to talk about taking Biochemistry again because I have done badly in the exam. Passing the paper may not be enough for me to get honours grade. However, I got an letter in the evening saying that it will be better if I do a very good thesis and this will make up for my bad grades and I still may get an honour. Hmm...not convinced, but I feel much better now. Almost as if my life has been revived and came out from hell. I am extremely happy about this meeting with her and the outcome is great. My fate may be that I don't need to take another paper.

I spent the whole morning searching for papers about ELISA. I am not going to use ELISA, but will be using the machine to measure the colour development. I don't know the principle of ELISA so what's the better way to find out than read some papers? That's exactly what I did. I downloaded and printed them out. Spent the afternoon reading some of them, but got bored in CityLibrary.

I borrowed children's books, a Sci-Fi, tow romantic/historical, and a chick/feminine book. Hope everything will be ok.

I am still writing Fairy Tale magazine and maybe will be able to publish it on Na-No-Wri-Mo when October comes again. Hope everything is going well for everybody.

The foreign minister and our prime minister have both gone to Indonesia to attend a summit for tsunami relieve. Two kids died on Dunedin farm because of a farming accident. Poor kids.

Someone got stinged by a scorpio after coming back from South African. Weird. How did that happen anyway?

Watched five minutes of two and 1/2 men and I'm with Her. Very sad because Alex Young broke up with nice teacher. Why did they do that? They seemed to be going on so well. I really like that bloke, he seems to be genuine in love with the woman. Anyway, I suppose that's life. It's always giving you something unexpected.

Working hard, playing hard

I called J this morning to tell her that the city library is not opened. Mum and dad went to Mr. L's house and we stayed home. Fuzzyslowmo changed into a very nice dress and I admired her new clothes. Back to work, I started a new dairy and spent the entire day decorating it.

The weather is superb this morning, so I did some house work. First, I finished mum's chore, which is to hang the clothes from the washing machine. I went to Mr. M's house to check their mail, but there was none.

Mum, Fuzzy and I went to Pak'n Save and New Save because we ran out of food. We picked some obscure items, but mainly for the preparation because Fuzzy will start her work tomorrow for the Post Office. She will be sorting out NCEA test papers again. I wish that she will not be too tired, but when she comes back, she always seems to be tired.

It was quite hot when I drove to New Save. The supermarkets didn't get any new food because no farmers/shops were working today. There were two bunches of spinach lying on the stool. Hmm... they looked very dodgy so we didn't buy them.

We played Mahjong this afternoon. Had a lot of fun and dad was keeping us on our toes. Very "exhilirating, sexy, beautiful". It's just a fun phrase that dad uses.

Need to go because we are watching Ocean's Eleven today. It's a DVD that I got from the movie theatre, which comes free if you buy the movie gift pack.

We had spaghetii for lunch and spaghetti again for dinner. Corn soup and salmon. Aunt wrote e-mail to us.

There are a lot of people who are suffering right now

For once, the world stands still for the large amount of people who died in the tsunami. This is perhaps the largest catastrophe after the attack in North America. I can't say that our life is affected by it, but we would like to send our condolences for those people who don't know and unlikely to meet ever.

Life is never easy. If you are a pessimist, then you will live life as if it is a series of unfortunate events. You will feel that life is very hard and harsh on you and the people who are around you. I tend to think that life is like a series of tests, or problems that you will have to solve no matter what happened. Sometimes, the problems are not so hard to solve, so you can enjoy them and be very happy, but sometimes, the problems are so huge that you have to slowly entangle from the mess that you or someone else made, then eventually everything will work out. That's probably what the people in the affected area will have to face, and they can not escape from it.

I have heard that the number of death is so great now some countries have delay the release of the total number of the dead. The authorities will collect the number and bury all the bodies, then release the number in the end. The volunteers and the professionals are far too busy to solve the problems at hand, for example, delivering clean water and food to the survivors, providing strong shelters for all the people who are too afraid to go back to their previous living quarters, and burial or cremation of the dead. If you live close to the affected area, maybe it's best if you go there and help, or lend your car to the people who need to send in the provisions. In my opinion, it's best if you can actually help the people and give them support. In years to come, these places will need to be rebuilt so civil engineers and water engineers are needed.

Today has begun without much happening. We went to Mr.L's to pick some plum. We also tried to start his car, but the battery is pretty much dead. Dad said that it will be the best if he buy a new battery for the car when he comes over later in January.

Mr. C called and said that he will tow Mr. L's boat back for he is coming back to stay. Mr. C and his friends will probably come and borrow the boat and fish when Mr.L's here. Anyway, it's not our boat, so when Mr.L is back, the boat will be back in Hamilton.

Fuzzyslowmo is at her friend's house. Mum and dad are waiting for her return and dad's just worried about her. I don't know. I am just hanging around and watering my pumpkin, which is growing successfully even though the weather is completely crap.
